The President of the Metis National Council says they are disappointed in the final report of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission.

The TRC released its final report on residential schools earlier this week handing out 94 recommendations.

MNC President Clement Chartier says there were a few recommendations for Metis people, but they were treated as an afterthought.

“I think the general public just has to know that there is an excluded group of residential school survivors that are not yet being dealt with,” said Chartier.

Chartier says he was told by the government that the Metis residential schools were funded by religion, therefore, they were not a part of federal settlement agreements.

“Why is it that because the federal government chose not to contribute to the education of the Metis that we have to continue suffering in silence,” said the Metis National Council President.

Chartier attended the Ile a la Crosse Metis school in northern Saskatchewan.
