With the fire and heavy smoke in the area, STARS air ambulance was called in to make its first mission to La Ronge yesterday.
Mayor Thomas Sierzycki says the helicopter was called in to transport a patient south.
“I believe that they had to conduct the mission based on the fact that Saskatchewan Air Ambulance was unable and was busy and considering the smoke conditions and the visibility,” he says. “So STARS took on the call and they transported a patient south.”
Sierzycki says because of La Ronge’s northern location, fixed wing aircraft will be the most common method of flying patients south.
But he says it is good to know the STARS service can reach the north if needed.
