A Sturgeon Lake man is on a 200-km walk today to raise funds for a lawsuit against the Ministry of Social Services.

Chris Martell is suing for post-traumatic stress disorder following the death of his son in an overcrowded foster home five years ago.

Twenty-two-month-old Evander Lee Daniels drowned in a bathtub. His death was the subject of a recent scathing report by Saskatchewan’s children and youth advocate which condemned the ministry for the way it handled the case.

Martell says no one should have to go through what he went through.  He is now trying to raise $10,000 to help with legal fees.

“I have a Go Fund Me account,” he says.  “And they can progress my walk on Twitter or Facebook.  I’m documenting my walk.”

Martell began his walk yesterday morning. He expects to arrive in Sturgeon Lake on Friday where he will meet with officials from Social Services.  Evander Daniels’ mother is also suing.
