Many adoptees of the “60’s Scoop” say their experience was as traumatic as that suffered by residential school survivors.

A public forum is scheduled in Saskatoon tonight to examine this process where thousands of Aboriginal children were taken from their homes and placed with white families.

Dr. Jacqueline Maurice is one of the panelists and she says this is more than First Nations and Metis people complaining about the past.

“No, it’s not that,” she says. “Because if any one of us took a look right now, we know for a fact that there is a ‘Millennium Scoop’. We need to stop this action or reaction of government officials or social workers or Child and Family Services agencies and authorities removing our children.”

Organizers say the forum is being held to raise awareness of the issue to the mainstream public.
