A Saskatoon elementary school received a $68,000 grant from the Indigo chain of bookstores today.
The Westmount Elementary School will use the money to buy books for students and improve their library.
Principal Nicola Bishop-Yong says the school is on the path to good literacy.
“We have made an incredible impact on our literacy rates in the last four years,” she says. “We have students who are not quite where we want them to be in our school. They just need that little step up, that leg up. And this past year, our reading levels increased the most.”
The Westmount School can use 10 per cent of the grant money for special literacy-related projects that include improvements to the library.
