Air quality conditions have improved in the La Ronge area today, although an advisory continues for people who may have health issues because of the smoke.
The largest fire in the area, the Egg fire is still about 12-kilometers north of the town, which is what officials expected.
La Ronge Mayor Thomas Sierzycki spoke with MBC to update the local situation today.
He says some of the aircraft which were grounded yesterday are now back in the air.
The mayor says a plan is in place to ensure utilities are not disrupted in the area.
“We also met with representatives of Sask Energy, Sask Power and Sask Tel to ensure that we have a good comprehensive plan in place in case it is needed in the community, as people are aware they do have a plan, we have a plan and it’s just those additional talks that need to happen”.
Sask Highways also announced this morning that limited, local, emergency traffic is being allowed through north of La Ronge on Highway 102.
However because of the fire situation, that could change at any time.
Traffic is also being allowed through on Highway 2 south of La Ronge in the Weyakwin area.
Heavy smoke is also reported in that region so drivers are advised to slow down and use caution.
General Evacuation orders are still in effect for Sucker River and Grandmother’s Bay.
