Court heard this morning the Whitecap Dakota First Nation lost close to $6 million during an alleged fraud carried out by a former employee.
At first it was thought Hugo Gallegos stole somewhere around $2 million while working for the band from January 2009 to July 2013 but the amount is now on record at $5.8 million.
Whitecap Dakota Chief Darcy Bear says his band will not stop until they get their money back.
“Well, you know me, I don’t quit, I don’t give up so we’ll continue to work on the civil side as well and we’re letting our legal counsel handle that situation”.
Gallegos still has not entered a plea in the two year-old case and will be back in Queens Bench Court next month on August 7th.
