From the Emergency Operations Centre:
For the second day in a row, the fire flank northwest of La Ronge was held and did not advance any closer to the community, 3-4 km distant.
Wildfire Management had aerial drops supporting ground crews along that line, and they made progress in making it more secure by putting dozer line around hot spots.
Canadian Armed Forces personnel and equipment were also working that line.
If that streak continues, it will allow firefighters to move some equipment to more needful areas.
On the east side of the airport, the fire expanded more towards the lake, but still no closer to Eagle Point.
However, the lake side of the Egg fire will be very worrisome to firefighters tomorrow, as there are cottages and cabins on that shoreline.
There was also a moment of anxiety shortly after noon today when to the northwest, a sudden thick plume of smoke highlighted a new fire.
However, it was within an area that had already burned around, and soon died down on its own.
There are far more threats than those around the communities of Lac La Ronge Indian Band, Village of Air Ronge and Town La Ronge, which are still vulnerable and will remain evacuated.
Firefighters and Forces had boots on the ground in Wadin Bay to continue keeping property as wet as possible.
Wildfire Management was able to send some additional sprinklers to Hall Lake, with a fire 1 km from their road.
And with air space so crowded at La Ronge – and lighter smoke allowing the bombers to get up – Saskatchewan Environment has moved a helicopter camp up to Grandmother’s Bay in order to address fires closer that region.
Tuesday night, there were 10 new fire starts in the region.
Highway 915 to Stanley Mission is now open, as is Highway 905 from Wollaston, and people continue to leave the far north when possible along Highway 102, escorted through the zone from Sucker River down to La Ronge.
A fire temporarily closed Highway 165 West towards Besnard today, and although that is now re-opened, yet another fire has closed Highway 165 East towards Creighton.
