The Chief of the La Ronge Fire Department says some of the first group of fire departments to travel to the La Ronge area to help out with firefighting have now cycled out.

Ron Pratt says that includes Saskatoon and the R-M of Buckland.

Pratt says new personnel are moving in as replacements and there is no shortage of more fire departments from southern Saskatchewan which have indicated they will also help out.

Pratt says firefighters with the departments coming in don’t require training.

“If you are in the fire service in this province, we’ve been working toward a unified type of training system for the last number of years so we can take people and mix them with other people from other departments and it seems you just fit right in”.

Pratt says some of sprinkler systems which have been set up are monitored 24/7.

“We have some sprinkler system that our tanks are hauling water to, and that has been around the clock to make sure the pumps keep running,” he adds “the sprinkler systems on the outside edge of town are making sure that the bush right on the edge of town is as wet as we can get it and it also helps to keep the humidity up in that area.”

Chief Pratt says the threat of the fire sweeping into town over buildings has to be entirely gone before residents can be allowed back.
