Court proceedings are moving ahead quickly for a woman who turned herself in this May after a man was found dead in his Melfort home.
Candace Gail Moostoos, 34, has been in custody since the day 70-year-old Alpheus Burns’ body was found. She’s charged with second-degree murder.
Moostoos’ legal aid lawyer and the Crown prosecutor have consented to bypass a preliminary hearing in the matter and transfer her file from Melfort’s Provincial Court to its Court of Queen’s Bench.
At present, Moostoos has not entered a plea, but if her matter does go to trial she will be tried by judge and jury.
Her next court date has not yet been set, and she has been in custody since May 18.
At the time of her arrest, the RCMP said Moostoos and Burns were known to each other.
