A 31-year-old man is dead after he was hurt while doing maintenance work at the lumber mill south of Big River on Tuesday.
Big River RCMP and paramedics were called to the Carrier Wood Products worksite before 9 p.m., but the man had already succumbed to his injuries before they arrived.
Officers had to perform a grim task after the accident, said Sergeant Lyle Korczak, a police spokesman.
“We did notify his spouse. We had members from the nearby detachment notify the spouse. So he did have a spouse and he did have children,” he said.
The man’s name is not being released.
Big River RCMP and Occupational Health and Safety are investigating what led to the fatal workplace injury.
