RCMP investigation into a hit and run on Sturgeon Lake First Nation has revealed the three victims were camping in the vicinity of a gravel road when a vehicle struck them.
At around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday, paramedics and police were called to the accident scene, which is known locally as the “Bison Trail/Shell River Road.”
A 20-year-old man from France and 24-year-old man from Germany were in serious but stable condition after they were transferred to Saskatoon’s Royal University Hospital from Prince Albert’s Victoria Hospital.
The third victim, a 21-year-old man from France – was well enough to be released from Prince Albert’s hospital after he was treated.
The RCMP says the group had been camping without a tent, and may have consisted of more people than those injured.
The driver fled after the accident, and has not yet been identified.
The Sturgeon Lake RCMP detachment said no charges have been laid at this time and the RCMP’s Forensic Identification Unit, RCMP Collision Reconstruction Unit are involved in the investigation.
