Conservation officers in La Ronge have finally captured and relocated a nuisance bear that has been seen in the community’s downtown area in recent weeks.

The two-year-old female was tranquilized Tuesday night after being spotted up a tree near a trap that had been set for it.

Saskatchewan Environment’s Daryl Minter says she is a smart bear who managed to take food from the trap without getting caught.

“I still believe this bear was probably pushed into town from the fires that burned earlier in the summer there and it just found a large enough green area within town that it was gonna be comfortable with,” Minter said.

Minter says this bear hasn’t lost its fear of humans — unlike the mother bear and her two cubs that were recently destroyed within town limits.
