A former chief charged with fraud is still deciding if he’ll run again.
Napoleon Mercredi of Fond du Lac says he’ll likely be at the nomination meeting on Friday night, but says he’s not yet made up his mind on whether he’ll throw his name in for the upcoming election.
At that time, candidates for chief and council will step forward.
Earl Lidguerre replaced Mercredi as chief several years ago, and the two have been involved in political divides in the community.
He’s currently going through a court battle on counts of breach of trust, fraud over $5,000 and theft.
Mercredi is set to be back in court on November 19.
The northern Saskatchewan First Nation has postponed its election until October 13 due to deaths in the community.
Advance polls in Fond du Lac will be open on Oct. 6 and in Prince Albert’s P.A. Inn on Oct. 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The band election runs Oct. 13 from 9 a.m. to 5 pm.
