A proposed Council of Canadian Governments is part of the Green Party’s Aboriginal platform released earlier this week.

The Greens says it would include First Nations, Metis and Inuit leaders — as well as the Prime Minister and the country’s premiers.

Desnethe-Missinippi-Churchill River Green Party candidate Warren Koch says the idea typifies what his party is all about.

“It’s a new concept that we’re working on and would like to work with everybody on,” Koch said, “(where) we all discuss how best to lead the country and move forward.”

Koch said the proposed Council is an idea that makes his party unique.

“The beautiful thing about building something new and creating a new council is that we can work together and help develop its meaning, its goals, its authority and a true partnership. One of the things I love about the Green Party is that we’re not wedded to saying our ideas are the way that it’s gotta go and this is what has to happen. We’re flexible, we’re open to change.,” he said.

The Green Party is also promising to implement the findings of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission, as well as launch a national inquiry into missing and murdered Indigenous women.
