Strong Start to Fur Season

There’s good news today for northern Saskatchewan trappers.

North America’s largest fur buyer reports that the price of beaver pelts sold at its weekend auction were, on average, $3 more than the price they went for this time last year.

The beaver is the staple of the Canadian fur trade and its value on the markets os seen as a good barometer for how the industry is doing as a whole.

North American Fur Auctions also says prices were up for marten pelts, and strong for muskrat and red fox pelts.

Italy, China and Korea were the main buyers, with the Chinese showing particular interest in the marten pelts available for sale.
