A Prince Albert man and woman faced a series of child neglect charges in court, for the first time, on Thursday.
The identity of the two – who share the same last name – will remain under wraps in order to protect the privacy of the children they allegedly abandoned, abused, and neglected.
The charges were laid after police found children – all under the age of 16 – who were in need of medical attention in a Prince Albert home, late last month.
Officers called in child protection and other agencies over their concern for the wellbeing of the kids.
Several children under 16 were taken into the care of Indian Child and Family Services and Social Services.
In court, the woman charged tapped her feet and the man leaned forward.
They sat through three hours of court proceedings before their names were called.
They waived reading of their charges -which are assault, criminal negligence causing bodily harm, child abandonment, and failing to provide the necessities of life for a child under 16 – and said they plan to apply for legal aid.
They’re back in court on November 10.
