Communities in northern Saskatchewan have hopes the new Liberal government will help them with a food security policy.
Cumberland House Mayor Val Deschambeault says her community with the help of the Cumberland House First Nation and Gary Tinker Foundation began to grow their own food.
She says the province and the federal Conservative government were very interested in creating a food security policy for northern Saskatchewan communities.
“So I’m hoping the new government will also continue with moving forward,” says Deschambeault. “Like I said, this is just the beginning of the food security solutions in the north.”
The town of Ile a la Crosse is also growing gardens in an effort to provide nutritious food that is affordable.
