First responders, volunteers and other agencies that helped in some way with this summer’s wildfire crisis in northern Saskatchewan were recognized in the Legislature on Monday.

Premier Brad Wall introduced 180 individuals who played a part in the province’s response and thanked them for their efforts.

Randy Bear, the safety officer on the Muskoday First Nation, was one of many firefighters that answered the call for help in the province’s north.

Bear says he was impressed with the level of coordination in the fire fight near La Ronge.

“Just the evacuation of La Ronge,” he says.  “So many different fire departments coming and going and keeping track of everybody – where you were supposed to be and not supposed to be – it was a great job by La Ronge.  Their whole fire department did a really good job.”

Bear says they came to help La Ronge, but it’s nice to be recognized.

The Armed Forces, the Red Cross, the Prince Albert Grand Council were among 50 organizations honoured on Monday.
