La Loche Still Making Do With Two Doctors

A spokesman for the Keewatin Yatthe Regional Health Authority says efforts are still being made to attract doctors to the La Loche health clinic.

Richard Petit says two out of four positions still need to be filled – but he’s hoping to see the gap filled shortly.

A little over a month ago, the health region fired and then re-hired its physicians in a bid to rework their contracts.

The move was slammed by the Saskatchewan Medical Association, which, in turn, was attacked by northern municipal groups for openly questioning whether doctors should work there.

Petit says doctors have been brought in on a temporary revolving basis to assist the full-time staff, but he’s hoping that won’t be the case for too much longer.

He says the health region has a good list of candidates from which to choose from.
