Officials with SaskTel say all services have been restored to northern Saskatchewan after a major interruption.

Last night, the Crown utility announced a major outage affecting all landline, Internet and cellular service.

The outage affected an area including La Ronge and Air Ronge in the south, and further north to Stony Rapids, Key Lake, Wollaston Lake, and McArthur River.

SaskTel spokesperson Greg Jacobs is blaming it on Mother Nature, saying the problem originated in the La Ronge area.

He says the ground settled which caused a boulder located next to a fibre optic line to shift in the ground.

“We sent our crews there to evaluate the situation, to determine how we needed to fix it,” he says.  “And it was decided that the only way to appropriately was we had to completely cut the connection there and then re-route the fibre around that large obstacle, that boulder.”

Jacobs says since land line, Internet and cell phone services were all affected, crews had to move in and fix the problem quickly.

Services to the north were restored around 10:15 Tuesday evening.
