Henry Delorme passed away on Saturday, October 31, 2015

The former Chief of the Cowessess First Nation will be remembered as a protector of treaty rights.

Henry Delorme passed away at his home on the Cowessess First Nation on Saturday. He was 78 years old.

Pat Sparvier remembers the advice and guidance Delorme provided when he was a band councillor during her term as Chief.

“He was always, like if somebody needed their house fixed, well we have no money,” said Sparvier. “‘We might have no money but go and look at it, see if there’s something we can do’, that’s the way he was, he always encouraged us to go out there do something, don’t just say no we can’t.”

Delorme served two terms as the Executive Secretary for the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, numerous board appointments including the RCMP public complaints commission.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday at the Cowessess Band Hall.
