An official with North American Fur Auctions says 2005 is already shaping up to be a good year for trappers.
Dave Bewick points to prices at last weekend’s fur auction in Toronto as a sign hunger for wild pelts is growing throughout the world, particularly in Asia.
Bewick expects wild mink, marten, otter and muskrat pelts will all have good showings at the next big auction in February.
Bewick says the season got off to a slow start due to the warm fall, but this recent snap of cold weather is just what the industry needs.
He adds leftover material from last season is dwindling fast, meaning buyers will need more product soon.
