The province’s economy is weathering the economic storm, but it is taking a toll on some sectors.  The latest job figures are out today.

They show Saskatchewan continues to lead the nation with the lowest unemployment rate in the country at 5.5 per cent.  However, there were about 1,000 fewer jobs in the province last month than there were in December of 2014.

The Aboriginal unemployment numbers are even worse.  They show an overall unemployment rate of 12 per cent, up about 4 per cent from a year ago.

Breaking the numbers down further, First Nations unemployment was pegged at 20 per cent, up 6 per cent from a year ago — while the Metis unemployment rate was 7.7 per cent, up nearly 4 per cent from a year ago.

The Aboriginal employment numbers are not seasonally-adjusted, but are based on a three-month average.
