The new tribal police force of the Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation is on the road this week.
Hector Thiboutot School in Sandy Bay was the first stop for 19 new recruits of the force today.
The members of the unit are in Pelican Narrows this afternoon for a demonstration at the school there.
Tomorrow, they will be off to Deschambault Lake.
Team drill instructor Peggy Lavallee says this week’s tour is intended to drum up interest in the force.
The PBCN tribal police are scheduled to begin operations later this year.
Officials with the tribal force say they expect to sign a memorandum of understanding with the RCMP in May.
