The jury is now out and a small group of supporters took to the street outside the Regina courthouse Friday afternoon as the fates of Kevin and Tammy Goforth are decided.

The Goforths are accused of second-degree murder in the starvation death of a four-year-old under their care, and causing bodily harm to her two-year-old sister.

It has been a grueling three weeks for the biological mother of the children who sobbed through much of the testimony.

On Friday afternoon she was outside the courthouse with about a dozen supporters holding signs with photos of the little girls and demanding justice.  She said she has hopes she will get, but says you can never be sure.

“Yah, I’m confident, but there is always doubt that runs through your mind. But I am confident I will get justice,” she says.

The little girls were under the care of the Goforths from November of 2011 until August 1, 2012 when they rushed to hospital suffering severe malnutrition and dehydration.

The four-year-old died, while her two-year-old sister recovered quickly after receiving fluids and food.

The Goforths are each charged with second-degree murder and causing bodily harm. The jury will have to reach four separate verdicts.

The judge provided them with 240 pages of instructions to help them with their decision.
