It’s a special day for a Prince Albert group that’s debuting a song meant to help La Loche heal.
A rendition of the song “Lean on Me” by people involved in Voices of the North went viral after the mass shooting.
So Sheryl Kimbley and the other talented First Nations artists decided to do a professional recording at St. Albans Church in Prince Albert. About 40 to 50 people came out, in addition to a six-person production crew.
Kimbley says the project is meant to keep the needs of La Loche in mind for years to come.
She said her hope is when people listen to the recording, “it reminds them (of) northern Saskatchewan and it’s always on the forefront of their minds.
“Don’t forget northern Saskatchewan contributes in a good way to our economy – that we need them, that they have strong politicians and musicians and doctors and nurses coming out of northern Saskatchewan,” Kimbley said.
The message of La Loche’s strength and resilience despite its countless challenges has resonated with thousands of people, who shared the casual cell phone video of Kimbley and others who sang “Lean on Me” on January 28.
The feeling she’s left with is hope for young musicians and for La Loche.
The song debuted on MBC Radio Friday morning.
Any money raised from the recording will go towards La Loche.
