Next week will be busy in La Loche as the community puts plans in motion to get their kids back to school.
The Northern Lights School Division is announcing a series of events, including two cultural events at La Loche’s Ducharme building, which is the community’s elementary school.
Both the elementary and high school have been out of session since a shooting in the high school left two educators dead on January 22.
On Friday, NLSD’s education director Ken Ladouceur issued a release saying a Continuity Plan is now is place to guide the reopening of classes.
The school division, village, government of Saskatchewan, and trauma response team are all involved in making sure kids can get back on track to finish their studies on time this school year.
A series of parent and student meetings have revealed that people are eager to get back to school.
La Loche is organizing a “reclaiming our school” walk for Wednesday to help transition the community, and to show their strength.
There will be an open house and cultural event at the Ducharme building on Tuesday and Wednesday.
