A world-renowned musician will be making a stop in La Ronge on Thursday.

Internationally recognized pianist Jan Lisiecki will be speaking to students as well as performing for the entire community during his visit.

This opportunity was made possible through a partnership between Cameco and the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra.

Executive Director of the Orchestra Mark Turner says Lisiecki is only 20 years old, but has been performing internationally since he was nine.

“At the age of 13 he released his first CD, signed a major international recording contract at 15 and has performed at pretty much every concert hall in every country he has visited,” says Turner. “He performs about 106 concerts a year.”

Originally from Calgary Lisiecki also performed for Queen Elizabeth II and is considered one of Canada’s future leaders by Maclean’s Magazine.

Turner says Lisiecki was very interested in performing in northern Saskatchewan.

He says in addition to the concert the world renowned pianist will be speaking to students in La Ronge about self-confidence.

“It doesn’t necessary matter whether it impacts them musically because he is a wonderful role model for these students,” says Turner. “He has a great concept of self-confidence and finding the confidence you need to do big things with your life based on your own personal strengths and goals.”

After speaking with the students the renowned pianist will perform a free concert at the high school at 7 p.m.
