As premiers and indigenous leaders are set to sit down with Prime Minister Justin Trudeau Wednesday afternoon, one Aboriginal advocacy group is still holding out for an invitation.
Congress of Aboriginal Peoples (CAP) National Chief Dwight Dorey is in Vancouver for the meeting.
The National Chief says he is in the city in anticipation of an invitation to attend the climate change talks with the Prime Minister.
“Climate change is an issue that affects all Canadians, Particularly Indigenous people, whether they reside on or off-reserve,” says Chief Dorey.
CAP is a national advocacy group for Indigenous people living off-reserve.
“I was invited to Paris for COP-21, so I don’t understand why I wouldn’t be invited,” says the CAP National Chief.
According to Chief Dorey, he has received overwhelming support from premiers across the country to have CAP included in the climate change discussion.
He says he has been in communication with the Prime Minister’s Office, but no invitation has been sent out at this time.
Chief Dorey says he plans to attend the meeting regardless of whether he receives an invite.
