The Congress of Aboriginal Peoples has a new name.

National Chief Dwight Dorey made the surprise announcement earlier today at a creative leaders symposium in Ottawa.

The organization will now be known as the Indigenous Peoples’ Assembly of Canada (IPAC).

Dorey says the term Indigenous is a much more inclusive name for the Congress, one that resonates with today’s international standards and is reflective of what they stand for.

People will start seeing the changes on the organization’s website and on social media over the coming weeks.

IPAC represents Métis, status and non-status Indians, and Southern Inuit Indigenous people living off-reserve.
