Concerned citizens brought ideas about how to prevent crime to a public meeting last night in La Ronge hosted by the La Ronge Anti-Crime Task Force.

Victims like Hugh Watt shared personal stories about how crime is impacting them in the La Ronge area.

“Over the last nine years we’ve had two home invasions, a couple of different times trucks stolen out of the year, skidoos stolen out of the yard, and I’ve just had enough,” Watt said.

“I don’t know what the answers are, but we have to at least start talking about it as a community and come up with some solutions.”

People in attendance also got an opportunity to see some crime stats in La Ronge. La Ronge RCMP says from the beginning of December 2015 until the end of last month, the RCMP received 130 calls for crimes against property

Numerous presentations were made by the RCMP as well as the Town of La Ronge.

Staff Sergeant Richard Price of the La Ronge RCMP detachment spoke at the meeting and he says overall the night was productive.

“There’s lots of good discussion there, lots of different perspectives from community groups and different organizations that are invested in making the communities better,” said Price.
