The province has made a move to protect over 35,000 hectares of land near Hudson Bay.
Eleven ecological reserves in the Pasquia-Porcupine Hills region have now been added to the Representative Areas Network.
It means that the valuable fish, wildlife and plant resources there will be protected from future development, including mining and forestry.
However, camping, hunting, fishing and trapping will still be allowed.
Currently, about nine per cent of the province is protected under the network.
The government hopes to eventually make that figure twelve per cent.
