The RCMP confirms foul play led to the death of a man whose remains were found in a field near Rosthern last Friday, but won’t release any more details on the circumstances.
Gilbert McCallum Jr., 21, was identified as the victim through an autopsy performed on Wednesday.
He had been the subject of a missing person investigation in Prince Albert since April 20 according to the RCMP. Prince Albert Police reported McCallum had last been seen in Prince Albert on April 15, and a missing person poster created by his family states McCallum last told a friend he was headed to Saskatoon.
McCallum’s family fundraised for numerous search parties near La Ronge and Prince Albert in the past month and a half.
A farmer who was tending to his Rosthern-area field found McCallum’s remains. Rosthern is nearly 75 kilometres from Prince Albert.
The investigation into foul play is a joint effort by Mounties and Prince Albert Police, and they are asking the public to come forward with any information on McCallum’s death.
