Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada is confirming that the Metis Nation-Saskatchewan legislative assembly at the end of the month has their support.

The long-awaited legislative assembly has faced many hurdles, but recently the Provincial Metis Council voted in majority to hold the assembly in Yorkton on July 30th and 31st. President Robert Doucette, who had been opposed to holding the assembly in Yorkton, then signed an agreement to release federal funding in order for the assembly to take place.

In an email to MBC from the INAC office they confirmed the funding agreement was in place and the MN-S is moving forward with the legislative assembly. The federal government says they continue to work closely with MN-S leadership as it works to resolve its internal governance issues.

The leadership of MN-S is also working closely with Ernst and Young to make the final preparations of their assembly at the end of the month.
