The Crown will be seeking an adult sentence against a 16-year-old girl accused of killing a six-week-old baby.
The accused made a court appearance in Saskatoon Monday morning where the Crown announced its intention to seek an adult sentence.
The 16-year-old is charged with second degree murder after six-week-old Nikosis Jace Cantre was found injured in a home in the city on July 3rd. He later died in hospital.
The family of the boy has been calling for an adult sentence throughout the entire court process so far.
In addition to the murder charge, the girl is also charged with escaping lawful custody.
Last December, she was sentenced to open custody for break and enter, arson, assault causing bodily harm, assault with a weapon and robbery with a weapon.
The defence has asked for a 30 day psychological evaluation of the girl, which will take place at Sask. Hospital.
She is due back in court on August 24th, 2016.
