When a northeastern Saskatchewan murder case returned to Prince Albert court this week, the whole room took notice.
Brett Napolean Michel, 20, was visible on a TV screen by video, making his second appearance since his arrest for second-degree murder in the killing of 19-year-old Jordan Bedard from Sandy Bay.
At the back of the court, a group of about 20 people were sitting quietly.
They stood out because they were wearing red shirts, some with the name Jordan printed on them.
Bedard’s friends and family are showing solidarity exactly one month after Jordan was taken in critical condition to Pelican Narrows Health Centre.
It took more than a week for police to make an arrest in the case, and they say during the investigation they discovered Bedard has been at a party the day before.
Bedard’s mother and aunt were among those in court, many of those present made the 400 kilometre trek from Sandy Bay to be there. They declined to do an interview.
As they left court, the group stayed close together and several people were sobbing
Michel is not seeking bail at this time, and his case is back in court on September 13th.
