A unique community safety conference will be coming to Saskatchewan’s North West region later this month.

Ile-a-la-Crosse is set to host a community safety conference on September 30th to discuss ideas around community policing, alternative justice, addictions and domestic violence.

Organizers say they will also be discussing how to find cultural resolutions among these idea.

Village Councillor, Donny Favel says usually they send one or two people down south for similar conferences, but says hosting their own conference should be more beneficial.

“With just one person going and gaining all of the knowledge, there are a lot of good things that don’t end up being taken back to the community,” said Favel.

Favel is a part of the Ile-a-la-Crosse Community Safety Board, which is hosting the conference. He says there will be several speakers and presenters.

“We want to ensure we have time to talk about finding solutions to our issues, so be ready for breakout sessions,” said Favel.

The conference is open to any other community who wants to attend. The cost is $25 per person, but it is free for elders and youth to attend.
