The Saskatchewan Indian Gaming Authority is inviting candidates for Prince Albert’s municipal election to join them in raising money for the local food bank.
SIGA, along with the Northern Lights Casino and Northern Lights Development Corporation are hosting a fundraising BBQ for the food bank on Friday at Prince Albert City Hall and have put an invite out to all of the candidates.
“We want to give these candidates a chance to show some support for the food bank,” said Richard Ahenakew, General Manager of the Northern Lights Casino. “We also want to give people a chance to identify their ward candidates and give them a chance to ask a couple questions if needed.”
Ahenakew also says the focus of the event is the fundraising.
“It is not a political event, it is strictly a fundraiser,” he said. “There will be no mic, no campaign speeches, the candidates are just there to help out.”
In addition to proceeds from the BBQ, SIGA will be presenting a $5,000 cheque to the Prince Albert Food Bank.
The event gets underway Friday at 11:30 am and will feature a performance from Canadian recording artist, Ray St. Germain.
