Prince Albert Grand Council is switching things up with its second annual culture festival.

Last year each of the days focused on one sector of PAGC’s nations: Plains Cree, Woodland Cree, Swampy Cree, and Dene.

This year they’re all combined so every culture is represented each day throughout the week, said PAGC Manager of Sports, Culture, and Recreation, Mel Mercredi.

“There will be a lot more cooking, a lot more activities happening for the public to come out and watch,” Mercredi said.

Last year held a high standard, with about 500 people attending each day. Many of those attendees were school students.

There will be different cultural games, food preparation, outdoor cooking, arts, drumming and dancing for people to take in.

Mercredi said it’s pretty easy to pick his favourite activity.

“I think everyone would agree with me on the outdoor cooking. We have moose, carbiou, elk, duck, geese, fish, of course. And then of course people will be making bannock. So there will be a lot of different things to sample,” he said.

Mercredi said their board wants people to see the positive side of First Nations people.

“We all struggle out there with negative challenges towards, maybe our culture and that, but here’s a chance to see the beauty of our culture and the successes within our communities. So this is what we want to showcase to everyone,” he said.

All the events will take place outdoor at the PAGC grounds or indoors at the Senator Allan Bird Memorial Centre.
