Friends of a Saskatchewan musician are organizing a fundraising concert for her as she battles cancer.
This Saturday, several bands will travel to Meadow Lake for a concert to help Lorrie Church pay for the treatment of Myelodysplasia, a form of bone cancer.
“She’s going to be needing a lot of medical attention and we as musicians wanted to help her out anyway we can,” said concert organizer and longtime friend Lance Whitecalf.
Whitecalf says he first met Lorrie in the Saskatchewan music scene in the 1980s and they have been friends ever since.
Church has had a successful career over the past thirty years, with multiple Saskatchewan Country Music Association awards and music that has been featured on CMT.
“Lorrie is a fighter,” said Whitecalf. “I know this disease is holding her back right now, but knowing her she’s going to beat it and that is something we are going to help her do.”
The concert will begin at 5 p.m. at the Meadow Lake Arena and is expected to run until 2 a.m. For more information on the event, check out a link to the Facebook page here.
Several bands and artists will play including Yvonne St. Germaine, Ray Villebrun & Red Blaze Band, Mitch Daigneault, Lance Whitecalf & Midnight Luv and the Evening Shift Band.
Church began her treatments a few weeks ago.
While she isn’t expected to join in on stage she will be there and according to Whitecalf is excited to reconnect with old friends and see all those out to support her.
A GoFundMe page has also been set up for Lorrie Church’s medical expenses.
