The La Ronge Ice Wolves have hired Evan Vossen as their new head coach and general manager.
Vossen replaces Shawn Martin, who was fired a few weeks ago. The 30-year-old played for the Ice Wolves from 2004-2007 before heading to McGill University for five seasons.
“I think I would be lying if I said I hadn’t thought about this in some point in time or another since leaving,” said Vossen. “You know – looking to get back in and being familiar with the community of La Ronge and the Ice Wolves program and organization. I thought that this could be a really good fit for me.”
Vossen has signed a three-year contract with the Ice Wolves. President of the Ice Wolves, Mike Bell, says Vossen’s familiarity with the organization was key.
“When he goes out and recruits players, he has that ability to give them exactly the experience of what they are going to come into – being a small town organization that we are,” said Bell.
The Swift Current product played three seasons of pro hockey with the Utah Grizzlies, Missouri Mavericks and Indy Fuel. Vossen also has some junior hockey coaching experience in Oregon.
It’s expected Vossen will arrive early next week in La Ronge.
