A prominent member of the Standing Rock Sioux Nation will be in Saskatoon tonight for the start of the FSIN’s “Spirit of Our Nations” Cultural Celebrations and Pow Wow.

Miss Indian World, Danielle Ta’Sheena Finn, will take part in the blanket dance following tonight’s Grand Entry at the SaskTel Centre.

Money raised from the blanket dance will go towards supporting the needs of the protesters at Standing Rock who are opposing the Dakota Access pipeline project.

The theme for this year’s cultural celebrations and pow wow is Protecting, Honouring and Respecting Our Women.

This follows resolutions passed by the FSIN and Assembly of First Nations calling for tougher laws for men who are convicted of violence towards Indigenous women.
