Several walkers will be leaving Stanley Mission this weekend, heading to Standing Rock, North Dakota.

Once they arrive, they will join the hundreds of people who are already there, camped out near the proposed site of the Dakota Access Pipeline.

Ricky Sanderson is one of the walkers and says it is hoped they can raise money to help out the protesters.

“I’m looking for as much donations as I can to take down to Standing Rock because winter is coming too and it is going to be cold, and they need winter stuff and winter gear,” he said.

Sanderson says he wants to raise awareness about what is happening in North Dakota.

“I’ll be willing to do presentations at schools if they want me to go talk to them and I will be explaining why I am doing this,” he added.

Sanderson says he has received help in organizing the walk.

One of the people who assisted was Bruce McKenzie, who walked from Stanley Mission to Ottawa for Idle No More in 2013.

Other people are welcome to join the walk, but they must provide their own vehicle, supplies and funds for the trip.
