The Prince Albert Police Service has been asked to conduct an independent, external investigation of a drowning in Stony Rapids that was precipitated by a police chase.

Mounties say they responded to a complaint in a Stony Rapids home early Saturday morning, and a suspect tried to flee from them on foot.

RCMP say he ended up in a body of water and disappeared beneath the surface.  At last word, he had yet to be found and is believed to have drowned.

In addition to handing over the investigation to Prince Albert police, the RCMP has asked Saskatchewan Justice to appoint an independent observer.
