A new patient-oriented research centre will be opening in Saskatchewan.
The provincial and federal health ministers announced 63 million dollars in funding for the new venture this morning.
The Saskatchewan Centre for Patient-Oriented Research is a partnership of provincial organizations that will provide resources and education in support of patient-oriented research.
The new research centre will have a specialized unit dedicated to improving Indigenous health outcomes in Saskatchewan.
It will provide guidance and support for researchers working in the area of Indigenous health, while ensuring Indigenous communities are important partners in research.
Executive director Helen Kenyon says having the patient at the centre of care or research is a fairly new initiative that has been much talked about.
She says the new initiative will allow patients, researchers, clinicians and policy makers to come together to design positive changes for the Saskatchewan health care system.
