Tolko’s Meadow Lake OSB Division is donating $10,000 to the Meadow Lake group Positively Parenting through the company’s community investment strategy.
Positively Parenting helps promote parent education and family support in the northwest city.
The donation will help launch a new summer recreation/mentorship program for children and youth in Meadow Lake.
Linda Lennea with Tolko says the donation is a part of the overall company’s community investment strategy, which is helping non-profit organizations in communities where the company operates across Western Canada.
She says the company wanted to be able to give back and support the community and work with a group that had a grassroots impact when it came to community services.
“After meeting with members from Positively Parenting, we knew that was the group we (Tolko) wanted to partner with and came up with the idea of the summer recreation and mentorship program,” she added.
She says there will be no cost to those who attend the program, which will run in the afternoons during the summer months. She says the program will be a benefit to kids that come from difficult situations and have positive experiences.
There is also a mentorship portion for high school and university students which will train younger adults to work with the kids during the summer.
Lennea also says the donation is two-fold, not only with the funding donation, but it will allow Tolko employees to volunteer with the program. She calls it a “win-win” situation for everyone.
In total, Tolko will donate $150,000 to not-for-profit organizations in the communities in which it operates in Western Canada and partner with community groups that serve the health, wellness and protection of youth.
