Three men have been fined a total of $14,700 for hunting violations in southern Saskatchewan.
The charges date back to November 2015. Conservation officers received a tip about an elk shot out of the hunting season on private land near Kamsack.
Investigating officers obtained ballistic and DNA evidence at the site. A white-tailed deer was also found a few days later.
Last month, 36-year-old Raymond Sparvier of Melville pleaded guilty to unlawfully hunting a bull elk on private land without permission and unlawfully possessing wildlife. He was fined a total of $3,500.
Anyone exercising Treaty hunting rights is reminded they must obtain landowner permission to hunt on private land or occupied Crown land.
Two accomplices were also charged in the case. They were each fined $5,600, and one of them received a one-year hunting suspension.
