The owner of a hunting lodge near Cumberland House and four of his guides will be sentenced in May for helping American hunters shoot dozens of waterfowl in their area.
Outfitter Gary Carriere and guides Delvin Laliberte, Cory Mckenzie, Claude Dussion and Donald Fiddler pleaded guilty in a Cumberland House courtroom yesterday to over 50 violations under the Federal Migratory Birds Convention Act.
The infractions were recorded in 2003.
Authorities say the men ignored numerous laws and allowed American hunters who were visiting their lodge to shoot game unregulated and without cleanup.
The men had been initially facing 149 charges, but that number was reduced by the Crown in exchange for the guilty pleas.
The men will be sentenced in Cumberland House on May 12th.
