Road closures continue in parts of northeastern Saskatchewan and a special air quality statement has also been issued.
The closures include Highway 106 from the junction of Highway 135 to Creighton. Fire has been crossing the road, with heavy smoke in area and reduced visibility in some areas. That situation will be assessed this morning.
The road from Pelican Narrows in the vicinity of Sandy Bay was closed yesterday, along with Cumberland House to the Manitoba border.
The resort community of Jan Lake has also declared a state of emergency due to smoke. About 15 residents were expected to move out until the air situation improves.
A special air quality statement has been issued for much of central and eastern Saskatchewan. Environment Canada says heavy bands of smoke are expected through the day. Many areas will still see poor air conditions into Thursday.
Some people may experience increased coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath. Children, seniors and those with cardiovascular or lung disease, such as asthma are especially at risk.
People with medical conditions may have to stay inside and avoid strenuous activity until the air clears.
